Behind the Scenes: Magnolia Network's "Family Dinner"

BY
Sarah Biegel

The Biegel family has been featured on Magnolia Network's, "Family Dinner" hosted by Chef Andrew Zimmern and I'm excited to take you into the episode for a little behind the scenes fun.

It all started on our Rooted In Red Instagram page (check us out here) when we got a DM talking about the opportunity to be on the show. My sister-in-law and I manage the account and called each other wondering if we were being pranked. Ha! To our dismay we definitely we not being pranked.

A couple of months later, the show's team came in and took over the playroom in the Biegel's residence to set up their equipment. Pretty funny to see their equipment alongside a blow up princess tent, baby dolls, etc. That was a spectacle in itself. We were just in awe at the amount of people + equipment it took to film an episode.

We honestly had no idea what to expect. But the production team and Andrew were incredible at making us feel comfortable and allowing us to be ourselves.

Filming took place over the course of a weekend. We spent a lot of time out on the cranberry marsh, in the old warehouse sorting cranberries and watching Vince's football game (this was filmed during the 2019 NFL season). Filming ended with our big, delicious family dinner.

Andrew made us this incredible cheesy crab dip to eat during the football game. It was really fun watching him cook and learning a few tips and tricks from the pro.

Not only am I grateful for this sweet memory as a family, but that we're able to relive it. My daughter, Willow, was only 6 months old at the time and it's so fun to look back and see how fast time flies. Also, I'm laughing because she has no idea what an amazing experience she was part of and probably never realize the extent of it.

I'm thankful that viewers are able to get a glimpse of what I fell in love with with the Biegel family. The warmth they all bring, the experiences we all make together, it's truly special.

Magnolia Network has officially taken over DIY Network, so you can watch our episode on cable TV. Or, stream it at your convenience on the Magnolia Network app or the Discovery + app below.
